Jordan Daily – Security forces in southern Syria intercepted a truck carrying a cache of weapons and anti-tank missiles destined for Sweida province, authorities in Daraa announced on Sunday.
In a statement posted on the Telegram channel of Daraa Governorate, officials said the truck had been loaded with various types of weaponry and was en route from Damascus to Sweida, a province with a Druze majority that has long posed security challenges to the central government.
Earlier on Sunday, the same source reported that security forces launched a raid in the western region north of Dael and west of Ibta, targeting a gang allegedly involved in arms theft and trafficking.
The operations are part of an intensified crackdown by Syrian authorities on arms smuggling networks and other illicit activities in the country’s south, where armed groups have expanded their influence in recent years.
Sweida remains a particularly volatile area, with several local militias operating independently of Damascus and resisting the authority of the central government.
