Jordan Daily – Minister of Labor, Youssef Al-Shamali, stated that it is not feasible to tie the minimum wage to inflation rates.
He made these remarks during a dialogue session with university students from universities in the northern region at Yarmouk University. Al-Shamali emphasized that job security is not guaranteed in both the public and private sectors for individuals lacking competence. He also mentioned that the minimum wage has been set at JD 260 for those without any specific skillset.
Regarding the industrial sector, Al-Shamali disclosed that the government has implemented measures to reduce production costs amidst the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Energy prices have been lowered for certain sectors, and the government covered the additional costs incurred in the energy bills for a two-month period.
Furthermore, Industrial Support and Development Fund had provided assistance to over a thousand Jordanian factories, according to the minister.
