UNHCR reports 20% decline in Syrian refugee returns in February

Jordan Daily – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported a 20% drop in the number of returning Syrian refugees during February.

According to the agency, approximately 46,600 Syrian refugees returned from Jordan to Syria between December 8, 2024- the day of the fall of the previous Syrian regime-and March 1 of this year, as reported by Al Ghad.

In February alone, around 18,600 refugees returned, marking a 20% decrease compared to the over 23,000 who returned in January.

The UNHCR attributed this decline in returns to the observance of Ramadan.
