Jordan Daily – Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply announced on Tuesday that the country’s reserves of wheat and barley are sufficient to cover domestic demand for the next 9 to 10 months.
Yanal Barmawi, the ministry’s spokesperson, stated that wheat reserves currently stand at 894,000 tons, enough to last 10 months, while barley stocks amount to 700,000 tons, which should cover nine months of consumption.
Jamal Amro, a representative from the Jordan Chamber of Commerce’s food sector, confirmed that overall stocks of essential food items, including sugar, rice, and oils, are “adequate.”
Commenting on cooking oils—such as sunflower, soybean, and corn oil—Amro noted that global price increases have led some traders to hesitate in purchasing and importing oils, as consumer demand for these products remains relatively weak at present.
