Al-Kindi Hospital emerges as leading destination for bariatric medical tourism

Jordan Daily – Al-Kindi Hospital has strengthened its position as one of Jordan’s most prominent modern medical institutions, emerging as a leading regional destination for bariatric surgery and medical tourism, the Hospital said on the sidelines of the 5th International Congress of the Jordanian Society for Obesity Surgery.

Located in Amman’s Jabal Al-Hussein district, the hospital has built a strong reputation despite its relative youth, driven by a team of senior consultants, well-trained medical and technical staff, and a management led by Chairman Dr. Mohammed Khrais, a pioneer in laparoscopic bariatric surgery.

Designed to meet international standards, Al-Kindi Hospital features 12 fully equipped major and minor operating theatres and advanced medical technologies that have attracted leading specialists across multiple disciplines. The hospital provides high-quality surgical, nursing and inpatient services aimed at delivering a safe and integrated care environment for local and international patients.

Al-Kindi has become a key contributor to Jordan’s medical tourism sector, receiving patients from more than 75 countries. Its combination of highly qualified staff, competitive treatment costs, internationally accredited systems and modern equipment has positioned it as a preferred choice for patients from the Arab region and beyond.

The hospital hosts a wide range of specialties including bariatric surgery, pediatrics, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, fertility and IVF, vascular surgery, lithotripsy, interventional radiology, oncology diagnostics, organ transplantation, cardiac catheterization, open-heart surgery, gastrointestinal endoscopy and emergency medicine. It also operates medical laboratories, a diagnostic imaging department and multiple on-site pharmacies.

Al-Kindi’s Bariatric Surgery Center, led by Dr. Khrais, is the only facility in Jordan accredited by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). Procedures performed at the center include laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, SASI, gastric bypass, mini-gastric bypass, butterfly procedures, smart capsule, gastric banding and intragastric balloon placement.

The hospital also invests heavily in medical education through the Al-Kindi Training Center, an American Heart Association–accredited regional hub that delivers specialized courses and workshops. It offers clinical training programs in partnership with Jordanian, Arab and international universities for medical and allied health students.

In addition, the hospital operates an online medical blog reviewed by specialists, providing educational content on diseases, diagnostics and treatment methods.

Al-Kindi has obtained several national and international accreditations, including recognition by the Jordanian Medical Council as a teaching hospital for residency programs in general surgery, anesthesia and intensive care, obstetrics and gynecology, as well as accreditation for internship training. It has also received HCAC quality accreditation, mammography unit accreditation and ISO certification for its kitchen services.
