Jordan Daily – The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and Spain’s ONCE Social Group will host the 2nd Regional Conference on the Socio-Economic Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in the Mediterranean Region on 23-24 January 2024 in Amman, Jordan, with the support of the Jordanian Higher Council for the Rights of Persons of Disabilities ((HCD) and in collaboration with the Arab Organization of Persons with Disabilities (AOPD) and the European Disability Forum (EDF).
The conference aims to address the challenges and opportunities for the social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities in the region, which has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic and the region’s socio-economic, cultural, and political diversity.
It will bring together high-level representatives from UfM member states, organizations of persons with disabilities, civil society, and institutional partners to review and discuss the results of a preliminary study conducted by an independent expert, based on the outcomes of the 1st edition of the conference held in Barcelona in January 2022.
It will identify good practices and success stories in the region that can be replicated and scaled up, as well as the priorities for future actions in collaboration with the main stakeholders of the region.
The conference will also validate an indicative timeline for the Regional Agenda, which will define the main steps to be addressed in the immediate future, and open a space for discussion on the funding of the agenda.
