JD - Iraqi security forces sealed off all entrances to Baghdad's Green Zone on Sunday after protestors attempted to storm the area, which houses the U.S. Embassy.

The demonstrators, protesting the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, were met with a heavy security presence.

Riot police used water cannons to disperse protestors attempting to breach one of the Green Zone's gates, according to reports.

Authorities also closed the Al-Muallaq Bridge, which leads to the U.S. Embassy.

The area surrounding the Green Zone experienced severe traffic congestion amid the heightened security measures.
