Jordan Daily - Azerbaijan has helped evacuate 1,797 foreign nationals from 66 countries from Iran through its land border amid rising security tensions in the region, according to a statement released by the Azerbaijani embassy in Jordan.
The statement said 285 Azerbaijani citizens had also safely entered the country from Iran.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry received requests from foreign diplomatic missions and companies operating in Iran seeking assistance to evacuate their citizens and staff. Overall, requests were registered for the evacuation of more than 2,500 citizens from over 50 countries.
On March 1, four staff members from Jordan’s embassy in Iran were safely evacuated through Azerbaijan’s Astara border crossing, the statement noted.
Azerbaijan said it would continue providing assistance to ensure the safety of people affected by the regional security situation.
