Arab News - Saudi Arabia’s defense ministry said early on Wednesday it had struck Iran-backed group targets in Iraq.
The ministry said in a post on social media that Saudi Arabia was not seeking escalation, but will respond to aggression.
The operation was conducted jointly with US forces, it said.
Earlier, the ministry said it intercepted and destroyed a number of drones on Tuesday evening that attempted to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Province.
The official spokesman for the ministry Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Malki said the “terrorist” attacks originated once again from Iraqi territory and were carried out by Iran-backed terrorist militias.
He affirmed the Kingdom’s inherent right to defend itself and its assets, as well as its right to respond at the appropriate time and place.
Drones launched from Iraq that attempted to target oil facilities in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province and Riyadh were intercepted on Monday.
