Jordan Daily – Chinese automaker BYD overtook Tesla in 2025 to become the world’s largest seller of electric vehicles, buoyed by strong demand for its battery-powered models.
BYD said that sales of its fully electric cars rose nearly 28% last year to 2.26 million units. In comparison, Tesla reported on Friday that it delivered 1.64 million vehicles in 2025, an 8% decline from the previous year and the U.S. company’s second consecutive annual drop in deliveries.
The shift underscores intensifying competition in the global electric vehicle market, as Chinese manufacturers expand aggressively while Tesla grapples with slowing growth.
