Efforts underway to repatriate one thousand refugees to Syria – Safadi

Jordan Daily – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi has revealed that preparations are underway for the voluntary repatriation of one thousand Syrian refugees back to their homeland.

Speaking alongside his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad, in a joint press conference in Damascus , Safadi said: “During our Amman meeting, we extensively discussed the voluntary return of approximately one thousand refugees. We deliberated on the Syrian government’s conditions and the expectations of the international community. I am confident that we are close to finalize the necessary groundwork that will facilitate this process.”

He stressed that refugees will only go back if they are confident they can give their families a safe and respectable life.

Safadi also mentioned that he had talks with his Syrian counterpart about what Syria needs and how the international community can help move things forward.
