Jordan Daily – Parliament passed a law on Monday to amend the right to access information law, aiming to enhance transparency, integrity and anti-corruption efforts in the country.
The law, which was approved by a joint committee of legal, national guidance and media members, aligns with international conventions and best practices on information access, according to a statement.
The law also restructures the Information Council, a body that oversees the implementation of the law, to include representatives of civil society, journalists and lawyers. The law also requires government departments to classify and index information according to a system that will be issued later.
The new law grants citizens the right to request and obtain information from public authorities, subject to certain exceptions and conditions.
