Jordan Daily – Environment Minister Muawiya al-Radaideh said on Wednesday that electric and hybrid vehicles make up 18.5% of the country’s car fleet, as demand for greener transport surged.
Radaideh told a parliamentary committee that the ministry has issued new regulations for managing and trading used batteries in 2023, as more Jordanians opted for electric cars.
He said the ministry is also taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change, aiming to cut emissions by 31% by 2030.
According to the Jordan Free Zones Investors Association, electric vehicles accounted for more than half of the total car imports in the first 10 months of 2023, up 137.82% from the same period in 2022.
Hybrid vehicles also increased by 15.7% in the same period, representing 22.56% of the total car imports, the association said.
