Jordan Daily – The International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) has selected Professor Dr. Luay Abu-Qatouseh of Petra University as one of five global experts on its Clinical Microbiology and Virology Committee for the 2026 cycle, making him the only Arab representative on the panel.
Abu Qatouseh, head of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department at Petra University, will serve on IFBLS’s scientific expert network, which develops and reviews international standards for laboratory testing to ensure accurate and comparable diagnostic results worldwide.
Petra University President Rami Abdul Rahem said the appointment underscores the university’s growing role in shaping global health standards and highlights Jordanian expertise on the international stage.
The Association of Jordanian Medical Laboratory Specialists, the country’s sole representative to IFBLS, said Abu Qattousa’s nomination reflects the quality of national laboratory professionals and supports efforts to improve diagnostic services.
Abu Qattousa holds a PhD in medical microbiology and clinical immunology from the University of Münster in Germany. His research focuses on *Helicobacter pylori*, antimicrobial resistance and viral immunity. He previously served as an expert at Jordan’s National Center for Epidemics and Communicable Diseases.
His four-year term begins in early 2026.
