Korean ambassador lauds Jordanian talent at KOICA alumni event

Jordan Daily – The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Alumni Association of Jordan (KAAJ) held its annual meeting in Amman on Thursday, attended by senior officials including Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Lina Annab and South Korea’s Ambassador to Jordan, Kim Pilwoo.

The event brought together 73 alumni of the KOICA Fellowship Program, representing various Jordanian ministries and public institutions. Also present were Fadi Balawi, Secretary General of Tourism and Antiquities, and Hanadi Al Nabulsi, Director General of the Government Procurement Department.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Kim emphasized the importance of the relationships formed through KOICA’s capacity-building programs, describing them as “invaluable resources” for strengthening ties between Korea and Jordan.

He highlighted Jordan’s human capital as the country’s greatest asset, stating, “Jordan’s greatest resources are its people- smart, hard-working, skilled, and disciplined.” Kim also reiterated Korea’s commitment to supporting Jordan’s socio-economic development by sharing its expertise.

During the meeting, six Jordanian officials who participated in KOICA programs shared their experiences, covering specialized training courses relevant to their professional fields.

In 2024, KOICA organized ten such programs aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of Jordanian government officials, contributing to the country’s human resource development.

The event concluded with a presentation by the 2024 KAAJ Board, outlining their ongoing initiatives and reaffirming their dedication to improving the well-being of marginalized groups in Jordan.

Since 1991, KOICA has offered training programs under its Capacity Improvement and Advancement for Tomorrow (CIAT) initiative, aimed at fostering human resource development for Jordan’s socio-economic growth.

To date, over 1,134 Jordanian officials have participated in training programs in Korea.
