Malaysia joins Jordan-led humanitarian air bridge to Gaza

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Malaysia has joined Phase II of the Humanitarian Air Bridge to Gaza, led by Jordan, the Malaysian Embassy in Amman said in a statement on Sunday.

The operation, aimed at delivering critical aid to Gaza strip, is a key effort amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza that erupted in October 2023.

The Malaysian delegation, received by Colonel Plt. Osama Al Khatib, Commander of King Abdullah II Airbase, and the Jordanian Air Force, is contributing to the operation following a $5 million donation from Malaysia’s Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine (AAKRP). The funds were handed over to the Jordanian government on Dec. 18, 2024.

The air bridge, inaugurated on Jan. 28, will provide urgent relief, including medical supplies, food, and essentials for women and infants, directly into Gaza’s affected areas. The initiative, directed by Jordan’s King Abdullah II, will run from Jan. 28 to Feb. 4, with 16 daily flights by the Royal Jordanian Air Force using 16 helicopters, the statement noted.

Malaysia, along with Greece and Italy, were among the first countries to back the air bridge operation. More international participants are expected to join in the coming days.

Malaysia remains firm in its support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination, advocating for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. Malaysia continues to push for Palestinian freedom, dignity, and justice on the global stage, the Embassy stressed.
