Jordan Daily – The Ambassador of Malaysia to Jordan, Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, hosted an “MTCP Networking Luncheon” on Thursday, emphasizing Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening development cooperation and human capital exchange through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).
In his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted that the MTCP, established in 1980, reflects Malaysia’s long-standing commitment to South-South Cooperation by sharing its development experience and expertise with other developing nations.
He said MTCP focuses on human resource development through training, study visits, and expert exchanges. Since its inception, more than 34,000 participants from 144 countries have benefited from its programmes.
He noted that since 2010, when MTCP was placed under Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra), the programme has adopted a new direction – prioritising strategic partner countries, promoting demand-driven training, enhancing public-private partnerships, and expanding collaboration with new development partners.
Key MTCP focus areas include professional services, management, trade, ICT, diplomacy, health, and education.
The Ambassador praised Jordan’s active participation in the programme, noting that many Jordanian officials have attended MTCP training in areas such as TVET, maritime management, cyber-security, rural development, petroleum technology, and Islamic finance.
Feedback from Jordanian participants, he said, has been overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting professional and personal growth as a result of MTCP training.
The luncheon provided an opportunity for the Embassy, Jordanian ministries, and MTCP alumni to exchange views and explore future collaboration tailored to Jordan’s development priorities. Several alumni also shared their experiences during the event.
