JD - Indonesia’s economy expanded 5.61% in the first quarter from a year earlier, marking the fastest growth rate since the third quarter of 2022, Statistics Indonesia data showed on Tuesday.

The growth exceeded market expectations of 5.30% and also accelerated from the 5.39% expansion recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Government spending surged 21.8% during the January-March period, driven by holiday bonuses for civil servants and funding for President Prabowo Subianto’s free-meal programme in schools.

The economic expansion was also supported by holiday spending during the quarter.
