Jordan Daily - Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Guo Wei said on Sunday that the second China-Arab States Summit, which had been scheduled to take place in Beijing in mid-June, had been postponed due to the ongoing instability and developments in the region.
Speaking at a press conference in Amman today, Guo said China’s relations with Arab countries, particularly Jordan, are strong and continuing to develop across various sectors, adding that a new date for the summit would be agreed at a later stage.
“The continued instability in the region is unacceptable,” Guo said, praising Jordan’s efforts under King Abdullah II to promote stability and contain tensions. He said China supported all efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region.
Guo described the recent visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to China and his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as “historic and important,” saying the two leaders held extensive talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties.
He noted the presidents discussed key international issues and agreed to support cooperation within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and the Group of 20 (G20), while stressing the importance of maintaining communication and deepening mutual trust and understanding.
The ambassador said that President Xi plans to visit the United States in the autumn of this year, adding that the exchange of visits by the two leaders within the same year reflected the strength of relations between Beijing and Washington.
Guo said China had not changed its positions on key regional issues following Trump’s visit to Beijing.
Xi and Trump held talks last Thursday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Guo said the meeting between the two leaders had drawn global attention and underscored the importance of cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
“The outcome of the talks highlighted the need for both sides to cooperate and act as partners rather than rivals,” he noted.
