Hamas rejects foreign oversight of Gaza, says any international force must be limited to borders

Jordan Daily – Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan reiterated on Wednesday that Palestinians reject any form of foreign trusteeship over Gaza, saying any international force deployed to the enclave must be limited to border duties and preventing Israeli attacks without interfering in internal governance.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Hamdan was responding to Indonesia’s announcement that it could send thousands of troops as part of a stabilization force in Gaza. He said Hamas had communicated directly with Jakarta, stressing that any foreign troops must remain neutral and not act in ways that contradict Palestinian will or serve as a substitute for Israeli occupation.

Hamdan said Indonesian officials assured Hamas their role would be confined to separating Israeli forces and Palestinians and preventing aggression.

He also rejected reports about disarming Hamas, saying Palestinian weapons are tied to the end of Israeli occupation and would not be surrendered before the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
