Jordan Daily – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, reaffirmed the Jordan’s commitment to developing a green hydrogen industry, aiming to become a global hub for green energy.
Speaking at a roundtable on green hydrogen infrastructure, Al-Kharabsheh noted progress with companies working on advanced hydrogen projects and highlighted the government’s efforts to create investment incentives and a regulatory framework to support the sector.
He emphasized the importance of reducing green ammonia production costs to enhance global competitiveness, aligning with Jordan’s strategy to promote itself as a key producer of green energy for both domestic use and export.
Investment Minister Muthanna Al-Gharaibeh stressed that local manufacturing is central to the investment strategy, with plans to establish an integrated economic zone to support renewable energy production chains.
Energy Ministry Secretary-General, Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, outlined regulatory advancements, including an updated electricity law to support energy storage and plans for new transmission lines to link renewable energy directly to hydrogen production. She also mentioned a new gas law, awaiting parliamentary approval, which includes provisions for green hydrogen.
Gretchen Biery, Director of the Eastern Mediterranean region at EBRD in Jordan, highlighted Jordan’s strategic location and renewable energy resources as key factors attracting green hydrogen investments, in line with the country’s Economic Modernization Vision.
The roundtable aimed to enhance cooperation between the government and private sector to maximize economic benefits and support global carbon reduction goals.
