Jordan launches smart gates trial at Queen Alia Airport

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Airport International Group, security agencies, and the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, has launched a pilot phase for smart gates at Queen Alia International Airport.

The system, aimed at expediting travel procedures, allows Jordanian passport holders to pass through arrival and departure points autonomously using biometric verification, including iris scans and passport data.

Five smart gates have been installed in the arrivals hall and four in departures. To activate the service, travelers must register once via the “Sanad” mobile app and enable their digital identity. Eligibility requires Jordanian nationality, a valid passport for over six months, a registered iris scan, and an age above 16.

Once approved, users can access the gates for one year without re-registration. The gates are designed to enhance efficiency, reduce waiting times, and improve data accuracy.

Authorities said the pilot will be continuously evaluated, with plans to expand the service to additional traveler categories in future phases.
