Jordan says wheat stocks sufficient for 10 months

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Jordan has signed 17 contracts to import wheat and barley through September, ensuring stable supplies despite global shipping challenges, a senior official said Sunday.

Emad Tarawneh, Director General of Jordan Silos and Supply General Company, said wheat reserves are sufficient for 10 months and barley for 8 months.

“The contracts in place will not be affected by any increases in shipping or commodity prices,” Tarawneh said, adding that Jordan has drawn lessons from past global crises to strengthen its food security.

He noted that the government has expanded national grain storage capacity, raising silo capacity to approximately 750,000 tonnes and constructing ground-level storage facilities since 2009 with an additional capacity of around 1 million tonnes.
