Jordan’s Druze urge unity, caution against foreign interference in Sweida

Jordan Daily –  Jordan’s Druze issued a statement on Wednesday expressing concern over ongoing unrest in Syria’s southern Sweida province, urging unity and warning against foreign intervention, particularly by Israel.

In the statement, the Druze highlighted their historical role in the region – from participation in the Great Arab Revolt to resisting colonial rule in Syria and opposing the Israeli occupation of the Golan Heights.

They reaffirmed their rejection of normalization, division, and foreign dependency, stressing that Syria’s territorial integrity must be preserved.

The statement cautioned against attempts to exploit their resilience and sacrifices. It warned that Israel may use the situation as a pretext to intervene in southern Syria, not out of support, but to pursue broader divisive agendas.

“Israel does not seek stability but aims to implement plans that threaten all of Syria, not just Sweida,” the statement said.

The Druze also called on the Syrian government to halt internal fighting immediately and to assume its constitutional and moral responsibilities by curbing extremist groups that endanger civilians and create openings for external interference.

They urged all parties to stand against any project that could lead to Syria’s fragmentation.
