Jordan Daily –  Dr. Hanan Al-Sboul, Secretary General of the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, has been elected president of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for a five-year term, marking an unprecedented milestone in the organization’s 204-year history.

Dr. Al-Sboul is the first woman and the first non-American to assume the presidency of the USP since its founding in 1820. The election took place last week during a conference held in the United States, which gathered more than 400 members from 42 countries, including representatives from regulatory authorities, pharmaceutical industries, medical and pharmacy faculties, and professional associations of doctors and pharmacists.

The USP is the world’s leading compendium for pharmaceutical standards, setting quality, safety, and efficacy guidelines for medicines used in over 150 countries. Dr. Al-Sboul’s appointment reflects the global scientific community’s recognition of her expertise and leadership in public health and pharmaceuticals.

Her election is seen as a point of pride for the medical and pharmaceutical sectors in Jordan and the Arab world, underscoring the prominent role Jordanian professionals play on the international stage.
