Jordan Daily – Embassy of Malaysia in Jordan on Monday hosted “Sarapan Malaysia: A Celebration of Malaysia’s Multicultural Flavours,” highlighting the country’s diverse culinary heritage.

Malaysia’s Ambassador to Jordan, Dato’ Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, said food remains one of the nation’s strongest cultural connectors, reflecting its multi-ethnic identity. “For Malaysians, food isn’t merely about sustenance; it’s a way of life,” he said, noting that dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai and Teh Tarik continue to unite Malaysians across ethnic lines.

He added that conversations about food are a national pastime, with Malaysians often travelling long distances or queueing for trending eateries. “In Malaysia, there is always something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds,” he said.

The ambassador highlighted the country’s vibrant restaurant and café culture, where social interactions often unfold over shared meals, from friends lingering over breakfast to colleagues turning mamak stalls into informal meeting spots.

Malaysia’s multi-ethnic breakfast culture was inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2024, a milestone that Nasri said reflects the nation’s diversity and social harmony. The recognition underscores how Malaysian food traditions foster connection and embody the country’s multicultural strengths.

“As you enjoy the flavours of our breakfast, you are not just tasting food; you are appreciating the goodwill and togetherness that define Malaysia,” he told attendees.

Nasri urged Malaysians to take pride in their culinary traditions and continue promoting them globally, echoing the country’s tourism slogan: “Malaysia Truly Asia.”
