Jordan Daily - Secretary-General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women, Maha Al-Ali, stressed the importance of developing a legislative framework that strikes a balance between ensuring the financial sustainability of the Social Security Corporation and maintaining its role as a key tool for social protection.

Her remarks came during a meeting on Tuesday with Chairman of the Parliamentary Labour, Social Development and Population Committee, Andre Hawari, as part of ongoing national dialogue sessions to discuss the draft amendments to the Social Security Law for 2026.

Al-Ali reviewed the commission’s main observations on the draft law, emphasizing the need to strengthen social and economic protections for women, while taking into account the nature of their participation in the labour market. She highlighted the importance of carefully considering eligibility criteria, mandatory retirement age, early retirement provisions, and required contribution periods.

She also called for expanding social security coverage to include flexible work arrangements, particularly for women working in the agricultural sector, and for allowing voluntary subscription for children of Jordanian women married to non-Jordanians.

Al-Ali further stressed the importance of achieving gender equality in access to retirement benefits, enhancing protections for women with disabilities, and ensuring fair representation of both men and women in the boards and committees affiliated with the Social Security Corporation.
