NARC hosts a scientific day on Horticulture Research
Jordan Daily – The National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) organized a scientific day focused on horticulture research, with the event being attended by scientists, experts, and researchers in the field. Dr. Nizar Haddad, the Director General of NARC, presided over the event and expressed his pride in the accomplishments of the Horticultural Research Directorate.
Dr. Haddad emphasized the significant contribution of the horticulture sector, which constitutes 75% of the total agricultural sector in terms of area. He highlighted the need to strengthen national efforts in developing horticulture and finding innovative solutions to overcome sector-related challenges. Dr. Haddad emphasized the importance of innovation, creativity, and modern techniques to enhance agricultural production while saving time and effort.
Furthermore, he emphasized the role of horticultural research in addressing climate challenges, particularly through the cultivation of tropical crops that require less water, have high market value, and add value to the final product. Dr. Haddad commended the efforts of the research staff in promoting perennial olive tree oil, which has gained global recognition for its quality and taste.
Dr. Safwan Al-Sheyab, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Jordan, expressed appreciation for NARC’s contribution to agricultural scientific research and its support in empowering workers, farmers, and engineers in adopting good agricultural practices. He highlighted the fruitful partnership between NARC and the University of Jordan in various agricultural fields.
Former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Rida Shibli, commended NARC’s role in regional scientific research development and its efforts in introducing modern technologies and smart applications through collaborations with local and international partners.
Dr. Salam Ayoub, the Director of the Horticultural Research Directorate at NARC, discussed the various implemented projects and research initiatives in areas such as vegetables, olives, post-harvest practices, fruit trees, organic agriculture, and palm cultivation. These efforts aim to increase production and provide solutions to the challenges faced by the agricultural sector.
