Jordan Daily – At the 2024 NATO Summit in Washington D.C., Allies endorsed a new action plan aimed at enhancing engagement with the Alliance’s southern neighbors. A key development in the plan is the establishment of NATO’s first liaison office in the Middle East, located in Amman, Jordan.
In a statement released by NATO , seen by the Jordan Daily , the move builds on a commitment expressed in the Communiqué from the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July 2023 and represents a significant step in deepening the strategic partnership between NATO and Jordan. The new office will serve as a hub for political dialogue and practical cooperation, facilitating closer collaboration on various issues of mutual interest.
Jordan, recognized for its stability in the region and its ongoing efforts against transnational threats such as terrorism and violent extremism, is expected to benefit from enhanced NATO support through this new office , the statement added.
The liaison office will enable regular engagement between NATO and Jordanian authorities, fostering a better understanding of regional dynamics and advancing joint initiatives.
The office will support a range of activities, including conferences, training programs, and collaborative projects focused on strategic analysis, civil emergency planning, crisis management, public diplomacy, cyber security, and climate change.
This development marks the latest evolution in a relationship that has flourished over nearly three decades, particularly through the Mediterranean Dialogue. The establishment of the NATO Liaison Office in Amman is seen as a natural progression in the growing partnership between NATO and Jordan, the statement noted.
