Petra, Amman hit hard as 126 hotels close in Jordan since 2020

Jordan Daily – Around 126 hotels in Jordan have closed since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, according to Hussein Hilalat, Vice President of the Jordan Hotel Association.

Petra saw the highest closures, with 36 hotels shutting down, affecting over 1,000 workers. Hilalat cited a significant drop in tourist numbers, down over 80%, as the main reason. In Amman, around 90 hotels have closed since the pandemic.

The ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza and the Palestinian territories has further impacted the struggling hotel industry, Hilalat added.
