
Jordan Daily – The Social Democratic Party held a dialogue session titled “Social Democracy: Reality and Challenges”, attended by a group of academics, political activists, and public affairs stakeholders. The guest speaker of the event was Senator Dr. Mustafa Hamarneh.
During the session, Dr. Hamarneh addressed the concept of social democracy as a political and economic framework that seeks to balance social justice with economic growth. He highlighted the key economic and social challenges facing Jordan, discussed the requirements for successful party-based political action-particularly for parties embracing social democratic principles- and emphasized the pivotal role of women and youth in building an effective democratic society.
The session was moderated by Dr. Haytham Ereifej, who opened the discussion by welcoming the attendees and the guest speaker. He delivered a brief presentation outlining the concept of social democracy and its importance as a political option capable of addressing social inequality and strengthening the foundations of a just state.
Dr. Ereifej noted that social democracy is based on several core principles and pillars, most notably:
Social justice and equal opportunities for all citizens.A regulated market economy that balances economic freedom with the state’s regulatory role.Social protection and safeguarding of fundamental rights in education, healthcare, and employment, participatory democracy and strengthening citizens’ involvement in decision-making. and empowerment of women and youth and their active engagement in political and economic life.
The session witnessed broad interaction from participants, who presented a variety of perspectives and proposals on the reality of political parties in Jordan, party-based political work, the role of women, challenges to political participation, and prospects for democratic reform.
Among the contributors were Professor of Constitutional Law Dr. Mohammad Al-Ghazawi, Captain Pilot Tamer Qardan, Abdelmalek Salameh, Dr. Marcelle Jouinette, Ruba Al-Rifai, Noulivar Abu Rabia, Yusr Hassan, Mohammad Al-Qasem, Bara’a Ma’ayeh, Qamar Al-Nabulsi, Samah Al-Bakri, Dima Abu Shorakh, and Lana Abu Sunaina.
This dialogue comes as part of a broader series of discussions organized by the Social Democratic Party, aimed at promoting public debate on political and economic reform and consolidating social democracy as a practical and realistic approach to addressing the challenges facing Jordanian society.
