Jordan Daily – Nahla Al- momani, Protection Commissioner at the National Centre for Human Rights, delivered a specialised session on technology and human rights during a regional course on emerging technologies held in Tunis.
The session examined the role of national human rights institutions in navigating rapid technological shifts. According to Momani, the programme featured extensive discussions on key themes including digital rights, the use of artificial intelligence to advance human rights and accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals, AI governance to ensure a safe digital environment, countering disinformation while balancing free expression and harmful content, personal data protection, inclusive digital spaces, and the responsibility of the technology sector to respect human rights.
Experts and specialists from across the region and beyond participated, sharing comparative experiences and best practices.
Momani said Jordan takes pride in its pioneering national experience in promoting and protecting human rights, including in the digital sphere.
She added that the country’s progress now serves as a regional model, underscoring the need to continue building on existing achievements rather than settling for what has already been accomplished.
