Jordan Daily – University of Petra has advanced in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, placing fourth nationally and 236th globally, up more than 20 spots from last year. The ranking included 1,745 universities worldwide.

University President Professor Rami Abdel Rahem said the results strengthen Petra’s international standing and reflect its commitment to global sustainability standards. He noted that the university is steadily advancing its green-campus strategy and integrating environmental sustainability into higher education in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Abdel Rahem added that the university’s continued progress – now in its fourth consecutive year- despite growing competition places Petra among the region’s leading environmentally focused institutions and within the top 14% of universities worldwide.

According to Ahmad Al-Qassem, director of the Quality Assurance and Planning Unit, the university scored 8,000 points, an increase of 250 points from last year. The gain helped Petra maintain its position in the first quartile (Q1) of global universities for the third year in a row.
