Jordan Daily - Iran’s embassy in Jordan said on Sunday that Tehran’s recent military actions were taken strictly in self-defense following the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran, and stressed that the measures were not directed at neighboring countries.
In a statement, the embassy said “misleading interpretations” had appeared in some media and on social platforms suggesting that Iran’s defensive steps were aimed at friendly states in the region.
The embassy said the first day of the aggression saw the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader in a targeted strike at his official office, calling it an unprecedented act that violates international norms and principles of international law.
It added that civilian sites inside Iran, including hospitals, residential areas and a girls’ school in Minab, had also been struck, which it described as a clear breach of humanitarian principles.
According to the statement, the attack occurred while Iran was engaged in diplomatic efforts and indirect negotiations with the United States through regional mediation, aimed at resolving disputes peacefully.
“The military attack demonstrated that Iran did not initiate this conflict and had no intention of launching a pre-emptive strike against the United States or Israel,” the embassy said.
Tehran’s subsequent military actions targeted specific military facilities and bases in the region that were allegedly used to carry out attacks against Iran, the embassy said, adding that such steps fall within a country’s right to self-defense under international law.
The embassy emphasized that Iran holds “deep respect” for Jordan and its people and considers the kingdom an important Arab and Islamic country in the region.
“Jordan and its people were never among Iran’s targets and will not be,” the statement noted.
The embassy also warned against what it called attempts by Israel and the United States to create divisions between Iran and other regional states through misinformation.
It added that Israel was attempting to attribute acts of sabotage in regional countries to Iran, accusations that Iranian authorities have repeatedly denied.
The statement concluded by calling for solidarity among the region’s Muslim nations and urged dialogue as the path to lasting security and stability.
