Jordan Daily - Students from the University of Petra's Faculty of Information Technology won first and second place globally at the World Robotics Championship Caspian Sea Cup, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, the university said.
The team "Palm Guard" won first place and received the award for Best Engineering Innovation worldwide, while "NeuroSeeker" finished second in the global open category.
The winning "Palm Guard" team comprised Abdul Rahman Al-Kurdi, Zaid Abu Al-Shaar and Abdul Rahman Al-Haimouni. The "NeuroSeeker" team was represented by Ahlam Zahran. Both projects were supervised by Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Banna.
The university said the teams' participation was supported by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Jordan's Ministry of Education.
The championship brought together innovators from countries around the world to compete in robotics and software systems.
Acting University of Petra President Mayyas Al-Rimawi congratulated the students, describing the results as a reflection of their capabilities and the university's commitment to innovation and robotics.
He said the university continues to invest in innovation, scientific research and a supportive learning environment that enables students to develop their skills and compete internationally.
The University of Petra said the achievement reflected the strength of the academic and training programs offered by its Faculty of Information Technology and demonstrated its students' ability to compete in specialized international technology competitions.
The university participated in the championship at the invitation of the Jordanian National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, in coordination with Jordan's Ministry of Education, to represent the country at the event.
