Jordan Daily – Independent Election Commission ( IEC ) said on Wednesday it is gearing up to hold the next parliamentary elections, with an expected turnout of 5 million voters, and stressed the need to empower women and youth in the political process.
Musa Al-Maaytah, IEC Chief Commissioner met with media representatives to discuss the legal and technical aspects of the elections, as well as the role of the media in raising awareness and shaping public opinion.
He said the commission has updated the voters’ lists, surveyed the polling and counting centers, and provided facilities for persons with disabilities. He also said the commission has issued executive instructions for journalists and media professionals covering the elections, and prepared a training guide for them.
Al-Maaytah reviewed the developments in the laws of elections and parties, which he said aimed to increase the participation of women and youth in political life , adding that the commission would hold meetings with the women’s committee in parliament, civil society institutions and governorate councils.
Dr. Abeer Dababneh, a member of the commission’s board, talked about the challenges and opportunities for women in elections and parties, and their involvement in managing the electoral process.
