Jordan Daily – Adel Al-Sharkas, Governor of Central Bank of Jordan said Jordanian banks are well-positioned to support Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery, noting that three Jordanian banks already operate in the Syrian market.

Speaking at the Jordanian-Syrian Banking Summit in Amman on Wednesday, attended by Syria’s Central Bank Governor, Abdul Qadir al-Hasriya, Sharkas said expanding this presence could help transfer Jordan’s banking expertise to Syria and develop financial products suited to current needs.

He said there are broad opportunities for cooperation, particularly in digital financial services and fintech, which could help modernize Syria’s banking sector and strengthen its integration with regional and global markets.

Sharkas highlighted Jordan’s rapid progress in digital payments and online banking, driven by widespread use of mobile and internet services, which has improved financial inclusion and service quality for consumers and businesses.
