Jordan Daily – Visa said on Thursday it will partner with the Central Bank of Syria and local financial authorities to build a modern digital payments ecosystem as the country seeks to rejoin global financial networks.
Under a phased plan, Visa aims to work with licensed financial institutions to issue EMV-chip cards and enable tokenized digital wallets, creating what it called an internationally interoperable and secure payments foundation. The company will also help merchants adopt low-cost acceptance tools, including Tap-to-Phone and QR-code systems, to expand access for micro and small businesses.
Visa said it will invest in training programs and support local entrepreneurs developing payment solutions, linking them with regional and global fintech partners.
Central Bank Governor Abdulkader Husrieh said the roadmap would accelerate economic modernization and improve transparency.
Leila Serhan, Visa’s senior vice president for North Africa, Levant and Pakistan, said reliable digital payments were essential for economic recovery and attracting investment.
